On flat water, should be able to perform a self rescue (wet exit; move boat and gear to shore), paddle forward and backward (stopping), draw, turn with sweep, reverse sweep, spin (onside & offside), and use (low) brace to stabilize tilting boat.


There is also a follow-up class being offered on Sunday 7/21/24 for students to practice the skills they learned on Saturday.  As this event is open to all members of the Canoe Club of Greater Harrisburg, it is a great opportunity to meet potential future paddle buddies.  This is important because you should NEVER PADDLE ALONE.  

If you choose to stay in the Lehigh area overnight on Saturday night please note that your instructors will be staying overnight in the bunkhouse at Canal Side Guest House in Weissport.  The bunkhouse costs $15-$20/night has seperate rooms for men and women, each with their own bathroom and shower. The rooms are air conditioned but you need to bring your own linens.  There is also a full kitchen and living room.

The Canal Side Guest house also offers an apartment that accommodates 4 adults with a full-sized bed and pull-out couch.  There is a Microwave, small refrigerator and a coffee maker.  There are also 3 rooms that can be rented in the main-house with 2 1/2 shared bathrooms and access to a full kitchen and living room. The rooms in the main house cost $50/night
