About this event
Lisa and Bart will be coordinating a fun filled weekend of camping (at the Savage River Road campsites) and paddling on the North Branch of the Potomac River on April 18 & 19. The North Branch is bottom feed release, so that means brain freeze cold when you practice your roll at the put in. I’ve always worn a drysuit on the Potomac, but then again when you roll a canoe you get completely wet.
The Potomac isn’t really technical, just holes and rocks which are easy to avoid. For those experienced with Class III it’s mainly an easy read and run. We usually have a good group of experienced people join us for the weekend, so for those first timers, there will be plenty of paddlers to help you get safely down the river, even if you do end up out of your boat. If you have questions about your ability to paddle the Potomac; Megan, Vern and Eric can give you good information.
The camping is right along the Savage River and although it is primitive, it is very enjoyable. There is a fire ring with plenty of flat area for tents and we are close enough to the port-a-potties for those nighttime trips. You can camp in your vehicle or bring your trailer.
If you are interested, let me know so I can send you more details as we get closer.
